Sat 5/7
We arose to another beautiful morning in New Orleans. None of us even made it down to Bourbon St., preferring to stay “home” and catch up on out beauty sleep. (Lord knows most of us can use it!) We rode a bit over 400 miles today From Louisiana into TX. So we’ve now logged over 1500 miles.
We met some good friends from The Run for lunch @ Cracker Barrel in Beaumont, TX. (Flame Chicken Joe, and Shadow). Then we pushed on thru Houston. Having a guide with a GPS unit and CB proved very useful. We did not make a wrong turn even in heavy traffic that made it hard to keep 7 bikes together. Bob Atwell on point and Carl Hinkle in the rear got us thru in fine form right to the home of Donnie Waller.
Unfortunately Donnie’s plans to feed us a TX BBQ suffered an unexpected change due to an altercation his Afghanistan Mission Army Trained German Sheppard had with a surprise Mother’s Day puppy. He graciously afforded us a wonderful dinner of Kentucky Fried Chicken and all the fixings.
We all elected to stay in the Holiday Inn Express down the road so as not to impose on him and his gracious family any more. We made it to the hotel by 10:00PM and plan to get a good night’s sleep before the continental breakfast and riding to San Antonio tomorrow. We understand that the other W’ville riders who departed today have not been as fortunate as we and have ridden in the rain most of today. We wish them the best as we all head West to meet in CA.
To all the Mothers who read this on Mother’s Day we all wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day!
Glad you're keeping up with your beauty rest. It was great to see y'all in Beaumont ~ we'll see you in Rancho.
